These dough hooks worked just as I expected them to. The dough was mixed well and did not “rise” up into the motor of my mixer.
Accidentally used an elec. mixer instead of mixing by hand... what can I do, the dough mixer dough is in little clumps?
The recipe called for hand mixing but my fiancee used an electric mixer, now the cookie dough is in little clumps

…to the stock dough hook (which simply pushes the dough around the bowl). Makes nice, smooth dough in short order.
Overall i am pleased with the mixer – it’s powerful and looks good. But what really upsets me is it retractable cord – it gets stuck every time i am pulling it out, it is such a headache that i prefer not to deal with this feature. The other thing i wish was there – the 1st speed is too fast, i with it has a lower speed.
I LOVE the spiral dough hook for the KitchenAid Mixer (I have the Pro600). I really got tired of dealing with the burnished finsh on the one that was included with the machine, however (it isn’t supposed to go into the dishwasher; one trip through when the spouse who doesn’t know better puts it in the dishwasher, and the finish is flat GONE–too bad they don’t make this in stainless steel). So I decided to purchase the coated one, which can go through the dishwasher, which I prefer anyway, just for the peace of mind knowing that it’s really clean and it doesn’t have to be babied. HOWEVER, Amazon doesn’t offer this directly, so without the benefit of Amazon PRIME shipping, I opted to purchase from the [...] site–even with shipping it turned out to be several dollars cheaper than the affiliated seller on the Amazon site offers it for.KitchenAid KNS256CDH Coated Powerknead Spiral Dough Hook
Unfortunately, these reviews are not all distinguishing between the “burnished steel” and the “coated”. There is a big difference. As a professional baker I use both the KitchenAid 4.5-qt and the 6-qt at home for product development. While I recommend the spiral hook as compared to the “c” hook (I have both) I do not recommend the burnished finish. Last week while I was down with the flu the burnished hook and flat beater were put into our dishwasher by mistake. They oxidized so badly that both are now a complete loss. After trying to clean them with various products and methods I called KitchenAid to see if there was anything I could do. They said “buy a replacement”. Once the finish is destroyed you risk getting aluminum (lots!) into your product which is extremely unhealthy.
I also have the coated hook and the flat beater for my 4.5-qt and in ten years my only problem has been a very small spot on the beater that is beginning to wear through the coating and will need to be replaced soon.(The coating seems to be some sort of plastic coating with metal underneath.) This can be avoided by making sure it’s not hitting the bowl anywhere. (You can call KitchenAid for help in making this adjustment if necessary.) I agree with another reviewer that it would be nice to get these attachments in stainless steel. But at one time KithcheAid was manufactured by Hobart, the leader in commercial mixers, and even they only make the attachments in aluminum (albeit a much high quality aluminum!).
In summary: I recommend the spiral hook over the c hook. I find the dough will still climb up the hook when kneading a lower volume of dough (under 2 lbs)in the 6-qt. (I do not recommend making dough in the Classic, 4.5-qt, as it will eventually burn out the smaller 250 watt motor.) The spiral hook is the same style as most professionals use (and I use in my bakehouse) as it provides a much better and uniform kneading action. But avoid the burnished steel if at all possible. One mistake into the dishwasher will cost you!
Have made several loaves of bread since purchasing my dough hook. Bread baking is a breeze with my new hook.
I have a K4SS mixer and when using this new hook It does not reach far enough into the bowl to mix the bread dough. not sure if I have to make a double batch so It will reach but It sure isnt long enough to Knead the dough. I’m going to return this one.
I got my KitchenAid at the Walmart black Friday sale and was a little concerned that I may not be able to find attachments for this model since it is Walmart specific. A little research, and I was able to get the right part numbers. Ordered without a hitch and arrived promptly. Everything works fine!
I spent weeks researching hand mixers comparing speed and country of origin. Several reviews I read elsewhere on the web raved that this item was made in Great Britain. WRONG – Made in China!
On the first use, the cord would not retract. The chemical smell was overpowering as the mixer ran. So overpowering that I became lightheaded and ill. Yes, I am chemically sensitive but the smell still lingers in the house.
The “chrome finish” is plastic. It’s all plastic except for the beaters.
VERY DISAPPOINTED and especially at the price. I expected more, much more for the price than what I got.
This is the best hand mixer I’ve ever owned. Powerful, light, terrific attachments. Just don’t think it’s real chrome. It’s a heavy duty plastic coated to look like the metal. I can forgive for that because it’s a wonderful product that I would highly reccommend.
I had a Cuisinart hand mixer which fell apart and was not powerful enough for some jobs. This Dualit Hand Mixer has power for anything, and is much better built than any mixer I have seen. The retractible cord works just fine, & I even like the box it came in…very substantial storage box that will last for years or decades.
This is a product I can recommend with highest confidence!
I’m not sure what the negative reviews are for. This is a major improvement over the old style C-hooks for dough. I make a fair amount of breads from the lighter sweet breads to the heavier multi-grain and the spiral hook is sooooo much better. The dough doesn’t climb and the kneading action actually kneads the dough instead of just mixing it. The difference was very noticable the very first time used.
I have a 6qt 525 watt pro model, and this hook does place quite a load on the motor. If you’ve got a smaller mixer, I’d be careful about overheating the motor.
Also, for a while, kitchenaid was using a molded plastic gear housing. This hook will put a major strain on the gear housing and mine cracked on the 3rd use of the hook. The replacement housing is all metal and seems much more up to the task. So, word of warning, check to see that you have an all metal gear housing before using this hook. If your’s is plastic, absolutely replace it first. The replacement runs about $25 and can be replaced easily if you own a screwdriver, in about 15 minutes total time.
