Of all of the Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers, this one is my favorite. I love how easy it is and it is all self contained. I suggest taking the instructions off before you take off the seal as this will help prevent noodles from flying every where :) The chicken in this can some times be chunky so you may want to mix it in after the noodles are cooked and heat it for another minute. I find the chicken to be cold other wise. I also have these in my disaster my closet as we are prone to tornadoes in our area and these will keep.

LIGHTSIDE
Dinner Blessings
The housewife invited 2 couple and their children for dinner one night. As they get ready to eat, the housewife asks her son, “Would you like to say blessings”?  “I don’t know what to say”, the boy replies.
“Just say what you hear what your mother says”, replied the mother.

The boy bowed his head and said, “Lord, why on earth did I invite two 2 couples and their kids for dinner”?

A priest dies and is in line at the Pearly Gates. Saint Peter asked the guy ahead of him his name.  The guy replies, “I am Sam Horton, taxi driver from New York.” Saint Pater gives him a silken robe and golden staff and said, “Enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”

Now it’s the priest‘s turn. He booms out “ I am the Right Reverend Anderson.” Saint Peter gives him a cotton robe and a wooden staff, and says to the Priest, “Enter the Kingdom of Heaven.”  Taken back the priest asks, “ That man was a taxi driver why does he get a silken robe and golden staff”.

“Results,” Said Saint Peter. “While you preached, people slept.
When the taxi driver drove, people prayed.

TIPS
BABY WIPES TIPS
Since heading the market in the 80’s, these moistened disposable baby wipes proved to be great in and outside the home.  From cleaning your hands after changing oil or a tire, clean tools, rub marks off your walls, many, many uses including shining your shoes, wipe with baby wipe and buff with a soft, dry cloth.

To freshen up a smelly drain, just pour a cup of Baking Soda into it, and flush with hot water.

Blocked Drains?
Instead of using caustic products (be green and save money) for clearing blocked drains, throw a cup of baking soda down the drain followed by a few jugs of water.

FOOD INFORMATION

GABA ENRICHED RICE

Having succeeded with GABA rice - using gamma-amino butyric acid, which aids the nervous system and muscle tone - Orapin and Natta aren't about to be so stingy with the rice-loving public.

They're happy to show interested groups and organisations, especially small enterprises, how to germinate the brown rice, and this gives them an alternative way to earn money.

Studies have shown that germinated brown rice can lower blood pressure, improve kidney function and help us sleep better. It appears to help prevent Alzheimer's disease as well.

USE FOOD THERMOMETER
Don’t rely on looks alone. Bacteria can spread during ground meat.  Always use a food thermometer and cook at 160 degrees Fahrenheit when cooking your hamburgers.

After about 15 years, Health Canada has come out with a new Food Guide. Included in the guide is advice for different ages and stages of your live (children, women of childbearing age, men and women over 50).

Some recommendations are;

Eat at least one dark green and one orange vegetable each day.

Vegetables, fruit with little or no added fat, sugar, salt.

Have vegetables and fruit more often then juice.

Make half your grain products whole grain each day Choose grain products that are lower in fat, sugar or salt.

Drink skim, 1%, or 2% milk each day.Select lower fat milk alternatives.

Have meat alternatives such as beans, tofu often.

Eat at least 2 Food Guide Servings of fish each week.

Select lean meat with little or no added fat or salt.

Peanut Butter Product Recalls

The outbreak of salmonella illness, which began in late summer and is ongoing, has been linked to eight deaths, including two in Virginia. In all, about 500 people in 43 states and Canada have become ill. About 22 percent were hospitalized, and about half of those affected are children.

Health officials said they would work with companies supplied by Peanut Corporation of America to continually update a recall list that is available on the FDA's Web site. The Web site details a long list of popular products that are affected, including candies, cookies, snack bars and snack mixes.

NEXT HEALTH CRISIS?

The past decade witnessed the massive off shoring of jobs to low-cost countries, decimating the U.S.A. and Canada manufacturing base. Cheap food may bring the next health crisis.Ice cream. Yogurt. Crackers and biscuits. Egg and products containing powdered eggs. Cake. Powdered and condensed milk, pet food, pie, cereal plus other food products.

You probably consumed some of these products.  Did you know where they came from?  You may have thought these products were produced in the USA or Canada.  You would not know that some of these products came from china, and yes, China imports them into Canada and the USA.

These foods of Chinese origin have been found by authorities in the United States, Canada, Australia, to contain an industrial chemical called melamine that is used to make plastic.  In recent weeks, the Chinese government has admitted that adding melamine to food - which raises protein levels, making poor-quality products look more nutritious - is common practice in China.

Melamine can cause kidney stones and kidney failure when eaten. It has already sent about 54,000 Chinese consumers to the hospital and caused the deaths of at least four infants.

BUY LOCAL

Where possible we should buy locally grown foods. As a rule your food is fresher, better flavor, picked within a day of your purchase. Local produce more likely has a higher nutrient content than store-bought produce that has spent time on a transport truck and warehouse.

Further farmers who sell directly to local customers receive the full value for their product, can sell cheaper, as there is less cost to processing, transportation, packing, warehouse etc.

ICED COFFEE
There are just as many ways of making coffee, as there are different brands. Here are some general rules.

For good results measure water and coffee.
2 tablespoons coffee to each 1 cup
Make coffee just before serving
Make coffee double strength and pour the hot coffee over ice in a tall glass.  As the ice melts, it will dilute the coffee. Top the glass with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Might sound silly but what can food processors NOT do? Can they mix pastry, bread, cake batter?
I'm food mixer undecided whether to buy a good mixer or food processor as I want something which will whisk/beat cake batters and make bread dough and possibly pastry. The dicing and slicing would be great!

We gave this to our granddaughter for her 5th birthday and she has been playing with it in her kitchen ever since. Seems durable so far (1 month).

We own all four of the Let’s Pretend cooking items. My kids love to play with them. They fill them with water and ice cubes and “cook” away on the counter with a kitchen towel to catch the overflow. Definitely recommend for toddlers.

This is okay…our daughter has enjoyed playing with it and pretend cooking. A little loud but tolerable.

I would prefer a learning toy over this…but I’m not the 4yr old.

Mah June 4, 2010 at 6:05 am

Our son loves this mixer. He loves to add water to it and “make cookies.” The last mixer we bought (different brand) broke within 1 week, and this one has lasted 4 months and it going strong.

Belohovek June 4, 2010 at 6:37 pm

Well… not even a week.
More like 5 1/2 days and about a dozen uses or less.
I was all set to get on here and sing the praises of this tiny yet powerful little mixer. But after less than a week it is dead.
When it did work, it did well mixing 95% of the lumps out of the formula.
But unfortunately, I now know why they sell a two-pack of these.

Hart June 5, 2010 at 5:41 am

If you use this mixer and feed your baby right away, you will be giving him/her seltzer formula that will cause major tummy upset. OK, only if you mix formula well in advance. I found that it’smuch better to make cappachinos and margaritas frothy.

Cross June 5, 2010 at 6:03 pm

I love this so much I buy it as part of ever shower gift and I bought like 4 for my own use (both grandparent, one for home, one for diaper bag. I have been using the one I keep at home for about 7 months now and I have only changed the batteries like 4 times. Since you don’t shake the bottle it is less bubbles and gas. In reply to the person who said to many bubble… if you put the mixer all the way in 9Touching the bottom almost ) then you get no bubbles. Also great for when you add ceral to bottle I have mixed up to 3 tablesspoons with 8 ounces and it does great!

Milligan June 6, 2010 at 6:10 am

Life saver!! If you have to use formulas such as the kind for spit up, or soys.. You NEED this product. Simple shaking of the bottle like for normal formula leaves clumps that clog the bottle nipple, and creates a tiresome clearing the nipple ritual which makes your baby frustrated w/ the feeding. This is a cheap and very effective way to combat that issue.. NO MORE CLUMPS!!

Cabrera June 6, 2010 at 6:04 pm

Have been using these for years to stir milk with Nestle’s Quik in it. Order several as they only last a few months with daily use.

Jerome June 7, 2010 at 5:53 am

This is a great little mixer. I use it for powdered supplements & it works so well. It is way better than the all in one with a drinking cup. (I tried that.)

Keyser June 7, 2010 at 6:16 pm

I love that this little mixer has enough power for either 8 or 12 oz shakes. It could be a little longer for taller drinks. The 2 double A batteries pack more than enough punch.

I HATE that the mixing wands are so hard to take out. I have to grab them with a napkin and pull HARD with both hands to disassemble it. I have limited grip in one of my hands and this makes this product difficult to use. The instructions say that the wands fit tight but will loosen with use… I’ve been using it 3 weeks now, twice daily and it hasn’t gotten any easier. I even had someone with regular grip strength test it and they agree that it’s a bit hard.

Greninger June 8, 2010 at 5:40 am

I’ve been looking for a small, travel-size mixer for making my son’s formula bottles. I found this one and figured I’d give it a try. I love it! It speeds up making bottles – not having to shake ‘em anymore. I also like how it comes with a travel case – definitely convenient! It’s nice and small that, when the mixing wand is detached, it’s as small as my cell phone. I definitely recommend this product!

I asked for this attachment pack for Christmas since I love applesauce and I do a lot of canning. I had never seen one used before so I had no idea what to expect, other than what people said in the reviews here on Amazon. The instructions for this are horrible; I had to look up an online video to know how the pieces were supposed to fit together. Maybe this is apparent to other people when they first unpack it, but I didn’t understand. The instruction book is for the food grinder, fruit and vegetable strainer, and the pasta attachment and this set does not include the pasta attachment. Nowhere in the instructions did it say that all the pieces included in the box were not used at once. After I got everything hooked up properly to the mixer (thanks to the video) I started loading my cooked apples in the tray. I agree with everyone here that the tray should be bigger, or the larger tray attachment should be included. Why not throw in the big tray to begin with? Once I got everything going, I realized the attachment “poops” out the front, meaning all the peels and waste comes out the hole in the front of the attachment in a long tube of pulp. I was not ready for this and now I know to put a smaller bowl under the hole to catch the waste.

The attachment seems very efficient, comparable to the old Foley food mill I’d been using. The texture is very similar. For my trial run, five large apples yielded 2/3 of a quart of applesauce. Much cleaner than using the food mill, since I didn’t have to worry about constantly dumping out the waste, it just came out the front. The directions don’t say what speed setting to use for making sauce; I guessed and used speed 6 and everything seemed to be great. It took me about 2 minutes to put the five apples through and it was effortless. As long as you keep the apples in the tray and don’t dump them down the sides, you shouldn’t have much mess at all. When I was finished I unhooked everything, disassembled the pieces and dumped them in a sink full of soapy water. Everything comes apart and is very easy to clean. The hardest thing to get all the apple bits out of was the metal cone.

I can see this being my favorite attachment come summer when canning season begins. This is easy enough to set up and use for small batches of applesauce anytime. Why can applesauce when it’s this easy to make? I will eventually use this for jam and baby food. If not for the horrible instructions (or lack thereof) I would give this five stars. How hard would it have been to include a step by step guide to assembling the pieces and include the correct speeds for the attachments? Maybe I’m missing part of my instructions? I don’t know, but it shouldn’t take a half hour online to figure out, especially when I’m usually pretty savvy at figuring out this kind of stuff.

Bought this set for my son, a chef-in-training. He is very happy with all of the
pieces, and I am happy with the number of food processing options that this set
offers. And that junior is happy with the gift. The testamonial in itself.

This seems like an expensive attachment, but it is essential for making homemade applesauce and freezer jams. It was so easy and the attachment pieces are very durable. I can’t believe that I was ever without this!

I’ve used a food grinder and fruit/veg strainer for almost 30 years with my old Oster kitchen center, so I’m very used to the concept and application. The Kitchenaid strainer is considerably smaller and has less output than my Oster’s attachment. The top feed tray and the diameter of the input hole are tiny in comparison. Whoever designed this unit did not plan on someone home-canning a large quantity of food… it is designed for an occasional pressing/straining of baby food or light duty use. This is disappointing.

You will definitely need to purchase the additional optional food tray!

As for the strainer, with common sense and care it should do very well. You just have to cook any fruit which isn’t already totally soft or cooked until completely mushy. I do like the backward pour-out design of the strainer unit.

Also, the picture shows a wooden pusher; the unit now comes with a plastic pusher which doubles as a wrench for a too-tight twist holding nut. It also is molded with places for your fingers, which is nice.

I like the quality of the Kitchenaid plastic. My old Oster finally gave up after almost 30 years; the motor’s still going strong but the plastic Oster attachments are broken :( Let’s see how the Kitchenaid holds up after 30 years of hard use.

The Kitchenaid food grinder metal plates and blade are smaller, thinner and less well made than my old Oster’s. I am slightly disappointed with the design.

Please don’t think I’m unhappy with my choice of replacement for my faithful but retired Oster. It’s just that I was expecting an upgrade in design because of the hype and cachet of the Kitchenaid brand.
