A home repair question: I need an ignitor switch for a KitchenAid gas cooktop. It's model KGCS1340?
I'm also looking for knobs for this unit which is about 20 years old (not that old for a gas cooktop IMHO). Various appliance parts web sites say parts are no longer available.We've already attempted professional repair. I looked up recommended kitchenaid model kl26m8x0b service outlets on the KitchenAid site and had a tech come out. He looked up the model and said sorry parts are NLA, and left, having the power disconnected internally and us having to start it with matches. (I've since temporarily wire-nutted around the vacant switch position.)So...a hundred bucks was wasted calling in a pro.I'm hoping however that the switch was not unique to this model and is and might be available as a part for some other model or brand and no one bothered tocreate a cross reference. I was surprised at how light weight it is but it works exactly as advertised without dragging or flexing. I failed to follow the instruction to check depth into the bowl before using for the first time. When I made cheesecake the sides of the bowl were perfectly scraped clean but there was a significant layer of cream cheese in the bottom of the bowl. By the time I noticed it I was too far into the recipe to try to cream it back in. It’s a real time saver in cookie and cake recipies – as long as you follow instructions for first time set up! Definitely a worthwhile tool.
Works well but the bowl lift mixers do not have the spring that the tilt head mixers have and this effects the performance of this accessory. Without a spring to push the beater down it does not scrape the sides as clean as it should. I found a spring that fits and I’m now very happy with the performance. Kitchen Aid does not include the spring because it would be hard to keep clean.
Purchased this item for my wife as a gift. She has used it already, to make cookies and icing. What she likes about the beater is that it scrapes the edge of the bowl, keeping it clean and thoroughly mixing the ingredients. This is a nice attachment for the Kitchenaid mixers.
I purchased this to use with my anniversary edition mixer…the one with the glass bowl.
It fits & works quite well…scraping the bowl almost too well because with a heavy dough it will get stuck from time to time!
I only wish that the attachment part was metal and not plastic considering the price paid!
The spiral dough hook is swell. Works much better than the “C”-shaped hook that comes with the mixer. My one caution… sometimes buying the spiral hook can be frustrating as what differentiates the spiral hook’s part number from the normal hook’s part number is an ‘S’ in the part number. I was twice sent the wrong part! (It was correctly packaged and labled – they just kept pulling the wrong item.) Once I got the right part I was delighted with the way it handles dough. It’s much less likely to allow the dough to climb the hook as it’s being worked – the spiral keeps pushing the dough back down. Nice. Also this design handles stiff doughs better than the “C” hook. Seems to ‘knead’ it as opposed to ‘bang’ it. Nice addition if you’re into bread.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer (whose counsel I wish I had believed), the item described on this page is not what will be shipped by Small Appliance. The description is for the spiral dough hook, but they will ship you the C-shaped dough hook instead. Caveat emptor.
I ordered this hook quite some time ago… and got the wrong one. Even though it’s advertised as a “powerknead” hook and the picture is of the spiral hook, the part number, and in fact the hook you will receive, is the standard C-shaped hook. The difference in part number is KN256BDH (C-shaped hook – the part number in the description here) vs KNS256BDH (spiral hook – the part displayed in the picture, but not the part number in the description) – THE “S” IS ESSENTIAL or you will get the wrong one. DON’T order this one assuming you will get the spiral hook. I tried to get them to exchange it numerous times – the return shipping label was always “on it’s way” – finally I gave up and I’m stuck with a hook I don’t want and already have one of (my machine came with a C hook, but I find the spiral hook works much better) – I’ll just have to try get rid of it elsewhere I suppose…
