This is the most powerful Kitchen Aid I have ever used and it works awesome. I do wish the top tipped up like the other models, but that is the only thing I would change.
Can I eat cheesecake if it got gray streaks in it from the bowl?
I was making the orange white chocolate cheesecake from the Wilton Romantic Cakes book and was pouring it into the pan when I noticed grey streaks kitchen aide in it. I was using a nice kitchen aide bowl so I don't really understand. There was a darker part in the bottom of the bowl. I don't know if it was from the pan or what. But there was a lot of grey streaks. Is it safe to eat? Should I just toss it? One of my culinary arts teachers said it was probably fine (he didn't actually see it), another said it was just too much and that she wouldn't eat it. What should I do?

This mixer will change the way that you bake! I absolutely love it. It whips up a cake in no time at all. It takes just a few minutes to cream 3 sticks of butter and 3 cups for sugar. This mixer is definitely a time-saver! I love my mixer!
This may be the “Bottom of the Line” for a Kitchen Aid mixer but the wattage was bumped to 275 and I find it to be more than capable for any job I have for it. It will change the way you cook. My Grandmother has owned and used a similar model for over 30 years, used almost on a daily basis, and it performs as good today as it did when it was new in 1977. Three generations have loved what was lovingly made with her Kitchen Aid. These machines are solid as stone.
I was thrilled that I was able to purchase a superior machine at the same cost that I could have paid for name brand machine of much inferior quality. i have not had a chance to try it yet but I know that I will enjoy it.
It came packaged very well and was shipped promptly. Thanks.
If the beater is not hitting the bottom of the bowl your mixer needs to be adjusted. On the K45 series there is a screw on the front of the joint when you tilt it back. Turn that screw clockwise (to the right)to tighten it and that will allow your blade to reach the bottom. If your blade starts hitting/rubbing the bowl, the screw should be turned back to the left until you find a happy medium. If the blade is hitting/rubbing you bowl it will damage your attatchments. Good luck. This is an older piece of equiptmant but built very well that should last a lifetime. My husband and I have a “hand me down” that has lasted 40 years!
I BOUGHT THIS A COUPLE MONTHS BACK I REALLY LIKE THE HANDLE I WAS CHOPPING ONIONS THE OTHER DAY TAPPED IT ON THE CUTTING BOARD TO CLEAR ONIONS THAT WERE STICKING AND POP THE BLADE BROKE OFF ABOUT 1 INCH FROM HANDLE AND it WAS A GENTLE TAP REALLY DISAPPOINTING BUT FOR THE SHORT LIFE IT HAD IT CHOPPED GOOD really liked the handle too bad the blade was so brittle
The product was delivered promptly in excellent condition. The seller did everything expected in the transaction.
This is a fabulous purchase. I use it almost everyday. Really easy to operate. Heavy duty. I bought the ice cream maker attachment as well, and all I can say is YUMMO! I saw a few reviews about it being a bit difficult to attach the ice cream blade, however it was as easy as hooking up a beater. (Hint; just look at the length of the two sides of the attachment and match it according to the picture of your model.) I looked at the other Kitchen Aid models, and am happy I bought the deluxe, lift bowl. It makes a large batch for one thing, and the power is incredible. I can make a quart of whipped cream in a minute, and my hands are free to do other prep work. I definitely use the shield when I have a full bowl, so don’t be fooled by what the adds say about the refurbished ones, “that you don’t need it”. (They can be ordered separately though.) With power like this, I will be ordering all the attachments for sure, which will eliminate many appliances. Just another reason I am happy to have this powerhouse. REALLY WORTH THE MONEY!
Always wanted a KitchenAid mixer and I bought the workhorse. Simply put, it makes baking and whatever else you would use a mixer to make so much easier! It is well worth the money.
This mixer is beautiful. It works great. We have made a few batches of pizza dough, cookies and brownies. THe only thing that we don’t like about it is that if you are making small batches of things the bowl is really way too big. I wished they had a diffeent size bowl that you could interchange with the 6 qt one.
The combination of the long, narrow feed tube on the grinder and the plunger that is just slightly smaller than the feed tube, it was possible to push the meat into the grinder so it would feed into the casings. The difficult part was refilling the tube with the ground sausage without including pockets of air. I’d be very interested in how other folks got this item to work with any kind of efficiency… my 5# of sausage probably took us between 60 and 90 minutes to stuff. This was long enough to make it difficult to keep the meat cold during the process. We managed, but I’ll be looking for another stuffing alternative. On a side note, I can’t exactly ding KitchenAid for the design of the grinder (long, narrow tube) since it is how they prevent fingers from getting caught in the impeller (a safety feature I consider worth the inconvenience).
I tried small link type sausage. “Snack’in Sticks” from High Mountain. Meat was difficult to get into the auger area and kept sticking in the tube. Then produced large air pockets wasting long segments of casing. Basically didn’t work very well at all. I quit and started using my jerky gun. (the cauking gun type). The only positive was that the tip attachment from Kitchen aid fit my gun. The gun worked much better.
I was hesitant to buy this given some of the negative reviews but seeing as it’s such a low cost accessory I decided to try it out. I’ve just finished making my first ever batch of homemade sausages and I have to say that this was the easiest and simplest to use accessory ever.
The only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the fact that some wastage occurs due to stuffing remaining in the tube and not in the casing. Not a big deal to resolve – I simply detatched the stuffer and pushed the remainder through with my fingers, but not exactly an elegant solution.
I recieved two large tube attachments, the kit inventory calls out, one small for breakfast sausage and one large. I have no use for two of the large tubes and cannot use half the recipes in the book I also ordered due to the missing part.
If you’re going to use your Kitchenaid strainer attachment (KitchenAid FVSFGA Fruit/Vegetable Strainer and Food Grinder for Stand Mixers) for anything more than a cupful of food at a time, you’ll need this attachment too. However, it is seriously flawed and there isn’t much you can do about it but put up with it because you really need this part.
Frankly, this food tray should be built into the fruit & veg strainer attachment hopper and not a separate item. Because it’s separate, if you don’t have the tray shoved firmly against the hopper of the strainer you will have liquid leaking out and down the head of your mixer. You have to constantly keep alert so the easily bumped out of position tray doesn’t cause problems. It’s a poor design overall, but better than nothing.
If you’re going to to the trouble of setting up the fruit & veg strainer you’re probably going to process a bushel of tomatoes or a pot of cooked apples into sauce, right? Messy jobs, and this design of separate parts is bound to make the job even messier.
I am not at all impressed with the Kitchenaid system for fruit & veg strainers. I used an Oster mixer for 30 years, with all its many attachments, until the plastic parts just fatigued out. The Oster’s strainer system was far superior in capacity and simplicity. But I do like my new Kitchenaid mixer better… just wish the fruit & veg strainer system could be sent back to the drawing board.
I’m seriously considering using aquarium grade silicone glue or something to permanently attach the tray to the FVSFGA hopper.
Have not used this yet, have every confidence in Kitchen Aide products, to use with our new mixer.
I find this tray very worthwhile. It enables the user to have between 1-2 kg (2-4 lb) of food ready near the KitchenAid FGA Food Grinder Attachment for Stand Mixers inlet. I found this great when mincing large quantities of meat and very valuable when making sausages (the sausage meat is sticky and it’s good not to have to reach elsewhere when trying to stuff the meat into the casings). 5 stars from me
Food tray greatly increased capacity of grinder. Only drawback is that it shifts on grinder in use and requires adjustment.
