This mixer works great I have chopped and shredded all kinds of things with it. The only draw back for me and the reason for only 4 stars is the noise level. If you use this on high speed #12 like the instructions suggest it is horribly loud. I turn it down unless I am chopping something hard like carrots, or shredding parmesan. Overall I am happy I bought this.
Amazon is hit or miss on the items they sell. Probably 75% of the items they sell are returns or refurbished. Read the reviews on other products. It is hard for me to say that they do not know this. I am sure they do. If you return the first you are guaranteed to get a know one. I believe they dump the old before they send the new. Its systematic and calculative. This product was sent back and refurbished. I am sure they have a company that does it. Then they recycled this stuff to the public.
The mixer attaches easily to the top of the Cusinart stand mixer and works beautifully. I’m so glad that I bought this product, I know want to own the rest of the attachments!

I love this mixer, it has plenty of power, is easy to use and the 7 quart bowl provides plenty of room for double batches. I have separately purchased the blender attachment and used it several times, as it is so easy to attach to the top platform. Great product.
After about 1 1/2 weeks of intensive research on the internet, in the restaurant supply district of NYC, I purchased this mixer. A litany of evidence made this a practical obvious conclusion. A 7- Quart mixer, under $400, easy to pick up and carry. Did I mention free shipping? Limitless possibilities with the pasta attachment (will order eventually), as well as the meat grinder. Affordable home-based creativity.
My other option was to drive out to NJ and pay about $750-$800 (+tax) for an Omicron 10 quart….only about 200 lbs, an $8 toll, gas, 3 hours of my day, and oh yeah a friend and a dolly. The Waring and Hamilton Beach caught my eye at first. Guess what though? They are only 5 Quart mixers, they cost an extra $100-$150 and still do not have the Cuisinart parts & motor guarantee. I dig it.
I grew up using my mom’s Bosch for bread, but I have been using a basic Kitchen Aid for 7 years for all uses which yields 3 loaves of bread for me. I have been eyeing 7 qt mixers for 4 years now, but have not been able to justify the expense. Luckily we found this Cuisinart closer to $300 much more affordable. I initially wanted the Delonghi because the design was so striking. Unfortunately they aren’t available anymore as Cuisinart has purchased and modified the model.
Experience: Made a batch of cookies. Used the paddle. Turned out beautifully. Could easily triple my recipe yield 5-6 dozen cookies. Tried making a 4 loaf yield bread recipe. Used the dough hook. I was able to mix up to 13 cups flour, but it didn’t incorporate well. I ended up dumping dough out and incorporating remaining 2-3 cups of flour in by hand. By making a large recipe I noticed that the mixing attachments top off at 3/4 of the bowl depth, well below the top rim of mixing bowl, thus limiting capacity. I noticed on Kitchen Aids web site there 600 models boast 8 loaf yields.
Key Bonus Features: 1) I love that it fits underneath my overhead cupboards and lights. I can’t fit my Kitchen Aid on the counter under the overhead cupboards since I installed counter lights. 2) I love the gradual speed control and the fold feature. I don’t like how quickly both the Kitchen Aid and Bosh pick up and that they lack any slow speeds. 3) I like the timer to prevent over mixing, though I don’t use it very often. 4) The attachment idea is appealing though I don’t use any. Bosch has had the same concept for years with their Universal mixer/blender combo.
Key detractors: 1) The Cuisinart design takes away from the cosmetic sleekness of the Delonghi. Bummer. That’s one of the reasons I wanted it initially. It looked so different and much cooler than Kitchen Aid. It appears as though Cuisinart is catering to Kitchen Aid users because the SM-70 looks like a mutated Kitchen Aid stand mixer, including the metal ring around the top and the horseshoe bowl harness. 2) You cannot mix 7 qts as the top of mixing attachments end about 1/4 below top rim of bowl. I poured in liquid and your actual mixing volume is about 5 qts before immersing the rotating stirring mechanism. This is however much more than I could do with my Kitchen Aid. Larger Kitchen Aids may hold more. Check the top level of the mixing parts to see how much you can actually fill the bowl. Maybe it is standard for stand mixer bowls to be larger than actual mixing capacity to reduce spillage, but a better design would reduce the percentage as much as possible. I can mix just over 5 qts in the Bosh and the beating mechanism is above the bowl rim. I also like the splash gaurd on the Bosch as you can make it a one or two piece cover. 3) The dough hook didn’t seem to incorporate the flour very well. I ended up pouring dough onto counter and kneading by hand. Not a problem in the Bosch. 4) I don’t seem to notice a real power different between the Kitchen Aid and this. They both seem adequate, but not overly muscular. Bosch seemed to handle the bulk of bread dough a little better. 5) The tall narrow bowl has some benefits and seems to mix well even at the bottom of the bowl with plenty of room to spare at the top for double batches, but to me I felt a little claustrophobic, trying to add ingredients while mixing and not getting them all over the place. With or without the splash guard, I felt there was limited space to try and get something into the bowl without actually tilting the head up. Maybe it just takes some getting used to after using wider bowls in both the Kitchen Aid and Bosch mixers.
Recommendations: 1) I would like to see them design a deeper mixing attachment so you can truly mix larger capacities up to top rim of bowl. Splash guard seems superfluous as you must keep mixture well below top rim of bowl so you don’t immerse mechanism. 2) It would be nice to see the pour spout on the splash guard have a little wider and taller opening to accommodate larger measuring cups. 3) I would like to see them move the controls to the back of the machine as my counter space makes it easier for me to use the machine sideways and from the left side. The controls on the right side force me to use it the other direction. If the controls were on the rear then I could place it sideways on the right or left side of my counter without trouble and still easily see the controls. The splash guard can already switch from right to left so pour spout can be on either side. It’s nice to at least have that flexibility.
It may well be the best option for larger capacity home use mixers, but if I had to purchase again, I would probably go with Bosch for larger bulkier jobs (larger capacity, great flour incorporation) and just use a hand mixer for cake batters and smaller jobs. If you decide to purchase it, save all of your packing materials and then try your largest recipes first to see if you can truly accommodate the larger capacity you envision and justify the expense. Then try to double or triple any recipes to see how far you can go. If you can’t, return it. If you don’t intend to make big batches of anything, don’t bother with it at all and just stick with your old Kitchen Aid.
I had 3 KitchenAid mixers: the first one lasted 20 years, the next one was replaced in 6 months under warranty when the motor died, the motor on the other one died JUST OUT of warranty. Three repairmen told me not to bother repairing it because it wouldn’t last. I replaced it with the Cuisinart SM-70 7 quart mixer.
Pro’s: quiet, easily adjustable speeds, handy fold and timer features, deep bowl that doesn’t splatter, works great on small or large amounts, all beaters can go in the dishwasher (unlike KitchenAid), doesn’t jump around on the counter (unlike You-know-what),looks awesome on my counter.
Con’s: I miss the handle of the KitchenAid (but not enough to spend another $500 on one that won’t last!) and the bowl is deep and heavy for a short person with arthritic hands.
I purchased this item for many reasons. 1 of course is the bowl size, 7 qts thats a large size for under a commercial use size. Also there is of course the 1000 watts so that it will not burn up as fast. There is also the time and the attachments. This product has performed to its the expectations that I had of the item and beyond, I definetely recommend this item to any looking for an industrial mixer that will work and work.
I purchased the meat grinder attachment for my Cusinart mixer and have made several batches of sausage and excellent ground round with the grinder. These is one problem in attaching the grinder to the mixer: you must be test the grinder to be sure that it is properly attached to the mixer. The spade of the griner is inserted into the proper slot on the mixer. Other then that the attachment works fine.
People shouldn’t give an item two stars just because of pricing compared to Kitchenaid. That’s not helpful to anyone. I pulled the trigger on this attachment when Amazon had it for $107 shipped. Yes it’s a little pricey, but compared to the Kitchenaid grinder for around $60, here’s what I can see as the differences for $$ spent:
- It looks like the SM-MG tray appears to be a little larger than the KA. (You can order a larger tray at add’l expense with the KA). - The sausage making attachments are included with the Cuisi. (Again these are not included, but can be ordered separately for the KA). - The whole main body of the SM-MG Cuisi is cast aluminum or some other metal, (whereas the KA body looks to be mostly plastic, and appears smaller). - The SM-MG attachment gives you three sizes of metal grinding wheels, whereas the KA I believe gives you only two sizes. - The SM-MG attachment, just like the Cuisi mixer itelf, has a three- year warranty. (I believe the KA mixer, and I am assuming the attachments, only have a one-year warranty).
I hope I have helped to compare apples to apples here. I know that I sound like a Cuisinart “fanboy,” but after weighing all of the pros and cons before purchasing a stand mixer for the first time, (and valuing my dollars spent), I went with the Cuisinart, and I have not been disappointed. (Believe me, I really wanted to buy American here, and KA makes a fine product. If they would up their warranty to three years, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with Kitchenaid).
You won’t be grinding meat for any commercial applications with this unit. It is rather slow, but does the job. (Grinding 5 pounds of meat for sausage took awhile - a good while. I used the directions to put the mixer on speed “5″. It was my first time using the attachment, so I didn’t think of maybe cranking it up to “6″ or so. I’ll have to experiment with that. After all, the SM-MG attaches to the “slow” gear outlet).
I gave it a 2 star because of price. Kitchenaid is about $50 less and is the same type of device. I have had a Kitchenaid for a number of years and was pleased with the meat grinder, unfortunately it won’t work on my Cusinart Mixer.
In general, I like the Cuisinart stand mixer because it has a more powerful motor and larger capacity than most of its competitors. However, the attachments are poorly designed, particularly the meat grinder. While the grinder is functional, I find the choice of aluminum for the housing poor becuase it cannot be cleaned in the dishwasher. Washing this the grinder housing by hand makes it difficult to sanitize this tool properly. It also suffers from the same design problem that most stand mixer attachments suffer and that is that any small amount of fat clogs the grinder and slows down its efficiency.
When I can buy my roast beef for $1.99 a lb, I buy several so that I can make my own ground beef. I grind very little fat with it and grind it twice per most instructions and my local bitcher. At $3.99 a lb for store bought ground beef I am $2.00 ahead of the game and with less fat.
I absolutely love my Cuisinart Stand Mixer and have been slowly purchasing the attachments as needed. This one was a mistake; not for lack of productivity though. As a food processor it works fantastically. The attachment is FAR too LOUD. As written previously by another reviewer, I don’t know who could stomach the unit running on Speed 12! I can barely go past 4 or 5. I have only used this attachment once because of the noise - it is the most ear shattering racket you will ever hear.
I decided to purchase a dedicated food processor appliance and use my mixer solely for mixing, pasta making and blending (I received the blender attachment free, but have yet to use it - hopefully it’s quieter, but it uses the same power port as the food processor).
This attachment will do the job, but I recommend investing your money into a separate unit to spare your hearing, and not to scare your pets and children.
This mixer works great I have chopped and shredded all kinds of things with it. The only draw back for me and the reason for only 4 stars is the noise level. If you use this on high speed #12 like the instructions suggest it is horribly loud. I turn it down unless I am chopping something hard like carrots, or shredding parmesan. Overall I am happy I bought this.
I love Amazon, but you can order this directly from Cuisinart delivered for $60 + $10 shipping. I have heard that if you use your stand mixer a lot, that a second mixing bowl is a good investment.

Amazon is hit or miss on the items they sell. Probably 75% of the items they sell are returns or refurbished. Read the reviews on other products. It is hard for me to say that they do not know this. I am sure they do. If you return the first you are guaranteed to get a know one. I believe they dump the old before they send the new. Its systematic and calculative. This product was sent back and refurbished. I am sure they have a company that does it. Then they recycled this stuff to the public.

The mixer attaches easily to the top of the Cusinart stand mixer and works beautifully. I’m so glad that I bought this product, I know want to own the rest of the attachments!

I love this mixer, it has plenty of power, is easy to use and the 7 quart bowl provides plenty of room for double batches. I have separately purchased the blender attachment and used it several times, as it is so easy to attach to the top platform. Great product.

After about 1 1/2 weeks of intensive research on the internet, in the restaurant supply district of NYC, I purchased this mixer. A litany
of evidence made this a practical obvious conclusion. A 7- Quart mixer,
under $400, easy to pick up and carry. Did I mention free shipping? Limitless possibilities with the pasta attachment (will order eventually), as well as the meat grinder. Affordable home-based creativity.
My other option was to drive out to NJ and pay about $750-$800 (+tax) for
an Omicron 10 quart….only about 200 lbs, an $8 toll, gas, 3 hours of my day, and oh yeah a friend and a dolly. The Waring and Hamilton Beach caught my eye at first. Guess what though? They are only 5 Quart mixers, they cost an extra $100-$150 and still do not have the Cuisinart parts & motor guarantee.
I dig it.

I grew up using my mom’s Bosch for bread, but I have been using a basic Kitchen Aid for 7 years for all uses which yields 3 loaves of bread for me. I have been eyeing 7 qt mixers for 4 years now, but have not been able to justify the expense. Luckily we found this Cuisinart closer to $300 much more affordable. I initially wanted the Delonghi because the design was so striking. Unfortunately they aren’t available anymore as Cuisinart has purchased and modified the model.
Experience: Made a batch of cookies. Used the paddle. Turned out beautifully. Could easily triple my recipe yield 5-6 dozen cookies. Tried making a 4 loaf yield bread recipe. Used the dough hook. I was able to mix up to 13 cups flour, but it didn’t incorporate well. I ended up dumping dough out and incorporating remaining 2-3 cups of flour in by hand. By making a large recipe I noticed that the mixing attachments top off at 3/4 of the bowl depth, well below the top rim of mixing bowl, thus limiting capacity. I noticed on Kitchen Aids web site there 600 models boast 8 loaf yields.
Key Bonus Features: 1) I love that it fits underneath my overhead cupboards and lights. I can’t fit my Kitchen Aid on the counter under the overhead cupboards since I installed counter lights. 2) I love the gradual speed control and the fold feature. I don’t like how quickly both the Kitchen Aid and Bosh pick up and that they lack any slow speeds. 3) I like the timer to prevent over mixing, though I don’t use it very often. 4) The attachment idea is appealing though I don’t use any. Bosch has had the same concept for years with their Universal mixer/blender combo.
Key detractors: 1) The Cuisinart design takes away from the cosmetic sleekness of the Delonghi. Bummer. That’s one of the reasons I wanted it initially. It looked so different and much cooler than Kitchen Aid. It appears as though Cuisinart is catering to Kitchen Aid users because the SM-70 looks like a mutated Kitchen Aid stand mixer, including the metal ring around the top and the horseshoe bowl harness. 2) You cannot mix 7 qts as the top of mixing attachments end about 1/4 below top rim of bowl. I poured in liquid and your actual mixing volume is about 5 qts before immersing the rotating stirring mechanism. This is however much more than I could do with my Kitchen Aid. Larger Kitchen Aids may hold more. Check the top level of the mixing parts to see how much you can actually fill the bowl. Maybe it is standard for stand mixer bowls to be larger than actual mixing capacity to reduce spillage, but a better design would reduce the percentage as much as possible. I can mix just over 5 qts in the Bosh and the beating mechanism is above the bowl rim. I also like the splash gaurd on the Bosch as you can make it a one or two piece cover. 3) The dough hook didn’t seem to incorporate the flour very well. I ended up pouring dough onto counter and kneading by hand. Not a problem in the Bosch. 4) I don’t seem to notice a real power different between the Kitchen Aid and this. They both seem adequate, but not overly muscular. Bosch seemed to handle the bulk of bread dough a little better. 5) The tall narrow bowl has some benefits and seems to mix well even at the bottom of the bowl with plenty of room to spare at the top for double batches, but to me I felt a little claustrophobic, trying to add ingredients while mixing and not getting them all over the place. With or without the splash guard, I felt there was limited space to try and get something into the bowl without actually tilting the head up. Maybe it just takes some getting used to after using wider bowls in both the Kitchen Aid and Bosch mixers.
Recommendations: 1) I would like to see them design a deeper mixing attachment so you can truly mix larger capacities up to top rim of bowl. Splash guard seems superfluous as you must keep mixture well below top rim of bowl so you don’t immerse mechanism. 2) It would be nice to see the pour spout on the splash guard have a little wider and taller opening to accommodate larger measuring cups. 3) I would like to see them move the controls to the back of the machine as my counter space makes it easier for me to use the machine sideways and from the left side. The controls on the right side force me to use it the other direction. If the controls were on the rear then I could place it sideways on the right or left side of my counter without trouble and still easily see the controls. The splash guard can already switch from right to left so pour spout can be on either side. It’s nice to at least have that flexibility.
It may well be the best option for larger capacity home use mixers, but if I had to purchase again, I would probably go with Bosch for larger bulkier jobs (larger capacity, great flour incorporation) and just use a hand mixer for cake batters and smaller jobs. If you decide to purchase it, save all of your packing materials and then try your largest recipes first to see if you can truly accommodate the larger capacity you envision and justify the expense. Then try to double or triple any recipes to see how far you can go. If you can’t, return it. If you don’t intend to make big batches of anything, don’t bother with it at all and just stick with your old Kitchen Aid.

I had 3 KitchenAid mixers: the first one lasted 20 years, the next one was replaced in 6 months under warranty when the motor died, the motor on the other one died JUST OUT of warranty. Three repairmen told me not to bother repairing it because it wouldn’t last. I replaced it with the Cuisinart SM-70 7 quart mixer.
Pro’s: quiet, easily adjustable speeds, handy fold and timer features, deep bowl that doesn’t splatter, works great on small or large amounts, all beaters can go in the dishwasher (unlike KitchenAid), doesn’t jump around on the counter (unlike You-know-what),looks awesome on my counter.
Con’s: I miss the handle of the KitchenAid (but not enough to spend another $500 on one that won’t last!) and the bowl is deep and heavy for a short person with arthritic hands.

I purchased this item for many reasons. 1 of course is the bowl size, 7 qts thats a large size for under a commercial use size. Also there is of course the 1000 watts so that it will not burn up as fast. There is also the time and the attachments. This product has performed to its the expectations that I had of the item and beyond, I definetely recommend this item to any looking for an industrial mixer that will work and work.

I purchased the meat grinder attachment for my Cusinart mixer and have made several batches of sausage and excellent ground round with the grinder. These is one problem in attaching the grinder to the mixer: you must be test the grinder to be sure that it is properly attached to the mixer. The spade of the griner is inserted into the proper slot on the mixer. Other then that the attachment works fine.

People shouldn’t give an item two stars just because of pricing compared to Kitchenaid. That’s not helpful to anyone. I pulled the trigger on this attachment when Amazon had it for $107 shipped. Yes it’s a little pricey, but compared to the Kitchenaid grinder for around $60, here’s what I can see as the differences for $$ spent:
- It looks like the SM-MG tray appears to be a little larger than the
KA. (You can order a larger tray at add’l expense with the KA).
- The sausage making attachments are included with the Cuisi. (Again
these are not included, but can be ordered separately for the KA).
- The whole main body of the SM-MG Cuisi is cast aluminum or some other
metal, (whereas the KA body looks to be mostly plastic, and appears
smaller).
- The SM-MG attachment gives you three sizes of metal grinding wheels,
whereas the KA I believe gives you only two sizes.
- The SM-MG attachment, just like the Cuisi mixer itelf, has a three-
year warranty. (I believe the KA mixer, and I am assuming the
attachments, only have a one-year warranty).
I hope I have helped to compare apples to apples here. I know that I sound like a Cuisinart “fanboy,” but after weighing all of the pros and cons before purchasing a stand mixer for the first time, (and valuing my dollars spent), I went with the Cuisinart, and I have not been disappointed. (Believe me, I really wanted to buy American here, and KA makes a fine product. If they would up their warranty to three years, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with Kitchenaid).
You won’t be grinding meat for any commercial applications with this unit. It is rather slow, but does the job. (Grinding 5 pounds of meat for sausage took awhile - a good while. I used the directions to put the mixer on speed “5″. It was my first time using the attachment, so I didn’t think of maybe cranking it up to “6″ or so. I’ll have to experiment with that. After all, the SM-MG attaches to the “slow” gear outlet).
